We have noticed that the Latvian State Security Service(VDD) has published its annual report of 2021. As to some parts of the report referring to China, I would like to point out that they are groundless and irrational. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Latvia, adheres to the principles of mutual respect, equal treatment and mutual benefit, and is committed to enhancing mutual understanding, deepening friendship and expanding pragmatic cooperation so as to promote the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Latvia.

I would like to reiterate that China regards Latvia as an equal partner, rather than an "opponent". The relevant parts of the report shows that relevant Latvian institution perceive China through tinted glasses. We hope they abandon ideological bias and Cold War mentality, take an objective and rational approach to understand China’s development and the normal bilateral exchanges between China and Latvia, and meet the Chinese side halfway by making more contributions to mutual trust and bilateral cooperation, rather than going to the opposite direction.
