On April 28, 2026, Ambassador Tang Songgen met with Secretary of the Saeima H.E. Edvards Smiltēns. The two sides exchanged views on China-Latvia relations as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

Ambassador Tang briefed Mr. Edvards Smiltēns on the Two Sessions, as well as the Outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People’s Republic of China. He emphasized that China always adheres to an independent foreign policy of peace and remains ready to share development opportunities with all countries.

Ambassador Tang pointed out that China has put forward the Global Security Initiative and advocates a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security. As unprecedented changes unseen in a century accelerate, with upheavals and turmoil intertwining and conflicts and wars erupting one after another, China and Europe should work together to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and support the role of the United Nations.
