Remarks by Spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in Latvia on China-related content in 2025 annual reports of Latvian intelligence agencies
2026-02-03 15:57

We noted that Latvian intelligence agencies, in their 2025 annual reports,  continue to hype up the so-called China “risks” and “threats”, and even make wrongful comments on the Taiwan question, irresponsibly and inappropriately. In response, we would like to make the following remarks.

First, the one-China principle is the political foundation of China-Latvia relations. The Taiwan question is purely China’s internal affair that brooks no interference from external forces. The recovery of Taiwan to China is an integral part of the post-WWII international order. China respects Latvia’s history and national sentiments, and we hope that relevant agencies and individuals in Latvia could follow the basic principle of “mutual respect” in international relations.

Second, in the era of globalization, politicizing or imposing security implication on normal economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges reflects a Cold War mentality, a zero-sum mindset, and a lack of confidence, which is tantamount to lifting a rock only to drop it on one’s own feet.

As an ancient Chinese saying goes, “While someone always frets, a gentleman is always calm and at ease.” China views Europe, including Latvia, as a partner, and maintains consistent, clear, and transparent policy on its relations with Europe. We kindly suggest that certain individuals and agencies abandon narrow-minded binary thinking, start taking a long-term perspective of the world, and handle relations with China in the spirit of mutual respect, equality, and win-win.
