On May 30, H.E. Mr Tang Songgen, Chinese Ambassador to Latvia, was invited to attend the opening ceremony of "Oriental Elegance" , a Rothko Museum exhibition of Chinese traditional art works from China's Tianjin Museum, and made a brief speech. The exhibition is part of celebration of Daugavpils' 750th anniversary.

Amb. Tang congratulated the Municipality and its people the 750 anniversary and said that Daugavpils is a city of great history, openness, inclusiveness and cultural diversity. The Rothko Museum is a well-known cultural and art institution in Europe, and it's a pleasure that Chinese historical and cultural treasures from the Tianjin Museum could be exhibited here and enjoyed by visitors.

Amb. Tang highligted that President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Civilization Initiative, advocating respect for the diversity of world civilizations, mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual trust among different civilizations and countries. The pioneering cooperation between Tianjin Museum and Rothko Museum will further promote friendly exchanges between Tianjin and Daugavpils, and between China and Latvia.
