On October 4, China Forbidden City Chamber Orchestra (FCCO) presented a concert of classic Chinese music with traditional instruments at the Foreign Art Museum in Riga. H. E. Hu Yeshun, Ambassador of China, H. E. Girts Valdis Kristovskis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Honorable Sergejs Mirskis, Vice Chairman, Latvia-China Parliamentary Group, Honorable Andris Pelss, Foreign Policy Adviser of the State President of Latvia, Honorable Uģis Bambe, Foreign Affairs Adviser of the Speaker of Saeima and other officials of Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Education of Latvia etc., artists of various circles of Latvia, some Ambassadors accredited to Latvia, representatives of the Chinese companies, Chinese compatriots and personalities of various circles, altogether 180 people, attended the concert.

The Chinese artists presented respectively the following classic Chinese music with traditional instruments and some foreign pieces : Jackdaws Play in the Water, Traditional Piece from Chaozhou Orchestra; Flying Partridge, Dizi Solo; Dreaming beside the Plum Blossom; Drunk Dancing Devarajas; The King of Chu Doffs His Armour, Pipa Solo; Deep into the Night, a Peking Opera Piece; Three Strains of Yang Pass, Songs My Mother taught Me by Antonín Dvořák, A Girl's Desire by Frédéric Chopin, Little Bird by Kodaly Zoltan, Counter-tenor etc. The concert came to a successful end followed by Beeming with Joy. The audience gave the performers a big hand.

Ambassador Hu and Madam Yan Liru held a reception in honor of the performers after the concert, H. E. Girts Valdis Kristovskis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and other Latvian officials, some members of FCCO etc. attended. The invited guests expressed their congratulations on the complete success of the performance and exchanged views of their impressions of the performance, had a high opinion of the extensive and profound Chinese culture and looked forward to more visits and exchanges of the Chinese cultural delegations in the future.

The 15-member delegation of FCCO, headed by Mr. YAN Tuoshi, President and Artistic Advisor of China Conservatory arrived in Liepaja, the music city in the South West of Latvia on October 2, 2011 and presented the first concert there on October 3, 2011. Their brilliant performance brought the house down and won acclaims from the audience. During the stay in Liepaja, the delegation paid visits to the Amber Sound Orchestra, the Pop Music Group and some of the historic sites, and also had a tour around the city.

The performances by FCCO forms an important part of the activities to commemorate the 20^th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Latvia, co-sponsored by the Ministries of Cultures of China and Latvia, and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Latvia. The theme of the performance is the High Mountain and the Flowing Water Seeks Good Appreciators. It means that the performances would seek more good friends for the traditional Chinese culture and shorten the distance of understanding the Chinese traditional cultures and arts for the audience, and enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples of China and Latvia.
