Ambassador Hu Yeshun Attended the Opening Ceremony of the New School Year at Riga Secondary School No. 68

On September 1, 2011, H. E. Mr. HuYeshun, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Latvia attended the Opening Ceremony of the new school year at the Riga Secondary School No. 68.

At the beginning of the Ceremony, four students made welcome remarks respectively in Latvian, Chinese, Russian and German languages. H. E. Ambassador Hu expressed in his speech that he was happy to know that the Chinese language will be one of the two foreign languages within the optional courses of the school since the beginning of the new semester. He thanked for the school the unremitting efforts at this regard and said that the teaching of the Chinese language in the school has opened a door to enable the students to get to know China and the East, and this also represented another progress in the field of the educational cooperation between China and Latvia. He said that the Government of the People's Republic of China provides some certain numbers of various scholarships to the Latvian students every year. He hoped that the students to study hard and will go to China for further studies and make due contributions to the friendly exchanges between China and Latvia. Ms. Goncharenko, Principal of the School expressed her sincere gratitude to the Embassy for the energetic support provided to the school. She encouraged the students to actively choose to learn the Chinese language. On the Ceremony, some students of the School sang the song of TWO TIGERS in Chinese.

On the same day, Mr. Li Bijian, Political Counsellor attended the opening ceremony of the new school year at Riga Secondary Cultural School which started the Chinese learning course first in Latvia.
