The Embassy's Open Day Ceremony Was Held at the Chancery of the Chinese Embassy in Latvia

On June 13, 2011, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Latvia held the Embassy's open day ceremony at the Chancery of the Embassy. The students and teachers of University of Latvia, the Confucius Center of Rīga Stradiņš University, Vidzeme University Of Applied Sciences, Riga Culture Secondary School, Riga No.34 Secondary School and the Traditional Wushu School of Latvia, the relevant youth officials from the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, the youth representatives of the overseas Chinese and compatriots, and the Chinese companies in Latvia, the members of the media of Latvia, nearly 100 people, attended the ceremony. Honorable Rolands Broks, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia graced the occasion as the special guest.

   

First of all, His Excellency Mr. Hu Yeshun, Ambassador of China in Latvia extended his warm welcome to the invited guests for attending the activities of "China-EU Year of Youth". He wished that the young people of Latvia, through the participation of the Embassy's open day activities, may understand more of China, and realize that China is a developing country with complicated national conditions: a country advocates democracy and puts her people first, and a peace-loving member of the world family. The youths of China and the EU shoulder the important historical mission of common development. He hoped that on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Latvia, the rapid development of the bilateral relations would inject new vitality into the growth of China-EU relations. He looked forward to the vast numbers of the young friends in China and the EU playing the role of bridge for the long-term development of the relations between China and the EU, and between China and Latvia as well.

   

Honorable Rolands Broks, Minister for Education and Science of Latvia spoke highly of the ever-growing bilateral educational exchanges and cooperation since the establishment of the diplomatic ties between Latvia and China 20 years ago. He stated that the publishing of the Chinese-Latvian Dictionary and the signing of the Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications and Degrees Between Latvia and China are of great importance to further enhance the bilateral cooperation in the field of education. He expressed his appreciation of the exchanges of youth between the EU and China from a strategic point of view and hoped that the young people of both Latvia and China to make new contributions to the growth of the relations between the two countries.

   
Soon after the opening ceremony of the Embassy's open day, a number of performances had been given by the young participants from China and Latvia. In the part of the cultural performance, the young pop singers of Latvia sung a song titled as "the Beijing Night", written based on their travelling experience in China. The representative of the Embassy performed the modem Beijing Opera. The students of the Traditional Wushu School of Latvia excellently performed the lion dance. In the part of mutual exchanges, the young people from China and Latvia formed several groups representing the universities and middle schools of Latvia, China, and the volunteers. They had sports tournament including tug-of-war, rope skipping, and shoot a basket etc. The volunteer Chinese teacher, students from universities and middle schools in Latvia respectively introduced to the audience of their one day experience. In the part of Q & A on China and Latvia ABC, the youths from both countries answered the questions raised by the hostess of the ceremony, with the theme of "to see how much do you know about each other". Finally, the invited guests attended a grand reception hosted by H. E. Mr. Hu Yeshun, Ambassador of China. The activities of the Embassy's open day ceremony were conducted in a cordial and friendly atmosphere and bursts of laughter kept ringing round. The guests all expressed that they passed an unforgettable day in their lives.

The Embassy also held a photo exhibition of introducing the political, economic, social, cultural and educational development in China at the open day ceremony. Some of the pictures took in Latvia by the staff of the Embassy also put on the exhibition.
